For the title of the magazine, although on this picture you can't see it clearly, I used a font that looked like chalk, as I thought this fitted in well with the school/college theme. I placed the issue date of the magazine at the side of the title, and made it smaller as I feel this isn't very important and if it was bigger it might have distracted the audience from the title. As I used the college initials 'SMC' i thought i would place the college's full name under it, so that if some people didn't know what SMC stands for, they would know once they read it.
Some improvements that I could have made to the front cover are I could have included more headings and cover stories. Also, when seen bigger, the picture is not very sharp, so this is something that could have been improved.
For the model, I used a college student stood outside of the college library, I did this because the library is a well known part of college and so if somebody saw this picture, they would automatically know where the student was. When taking the picture, I ensured that the student was looking at the camera, as this is direct address and looks like the student is looking directly at the reader.
For the title of the magazine I used white as this stood out more than most colours as the background is fairly dark, so the white provides a good contrast. For the story headings, I used both white and green. The reason I did this is because the student has got green on his jacket and so the green for the story headings fits in well.
I put a strap line running along the bottom of the magazine to stop the page from looking empty, the text I put in this says 'NEWS-TRIPS-PICTURES' which basically tells what the magazine is going to be about; school trips, new and events within the college and pictures from fundraising events or other college events.
I think the front cover looks quite boring and not very appealing, I think the title could have been made bold or italic or something to make it stand out more.
This is the contents page that I created as part of my prelim task. I decided to do it like this so that I could include pictures of the different groups that are included in my magazine.
